Introducing Artificial Intelligence: The What, How and For Whom

Haram Khan | 11 March, 2019

Artificial intelligence, most commonly referred to as AI, has gained immense popularity in the tech world in recent times. Fun fact: Airbus is using artificial intelligence powered software to increase production with a self-learning algorithm that recognizes any potential problems in production. And Airbus is not the only one, Amazon’s Alexa and Coca Cola are a few other market leaders using this technology.

However, many people are not aware of what this technology is. Artificial intelligence tends to be a pretty vague and complex topic still. It is for this reason that we wanted to explain to you in layman terms, what Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning is so that you can make an informed decision about whether or not your business needs it.
So without further ado, let’s get this show on the road, shall we?

Artificial Intelligence: What Is It?

The boarder definition suggests that artificial intelligence is a field that uses a wide range of scientific, mathematical and engineering techniques to comprehend how a machine can demonstrate intelligence. Essentially it is all about how a machine can self-learn to make informed and intelligent decisions in a particular setting.
The concept of AI has evolved over time but the core idea has always been about building machines that are capable of thinking like humans. After all, human beings are known for there ability to interpret things and use the information gathered to make such a decision that may inspire change.
Thus Artificial Intelligence is the capacity of a machine to be creative, have deductive thoughts and the ability to learn using the digital, binary logic of computers.
There are two broad categories of AI:
  1. Applied AI: Uses principles of simulating human thought to carry out one specific task.
  2. Generalized AI: Development of machine intelligences that allow it to carry out a task as the need changes, much like a human being.

How to Ensure an Accurate AI?

  • Efficiency of the chosen algorithm.
  • How you apply it.
  • How much useful data is available.
Artificial Intelligence is only the beginning of a world full of informed computers. And we hope for all those who had no idea, you got a little glimpse of what AI actually is.
